Scholarship Information Release - At present, the Rio Grande Conference Scholarship Fund has a balance of $8,277.43. The Higher Education Committee will be making some decisions this summer regarding this fund and determining how many applications and what amounts are to be awarded.
Being that these funds are low, scholarship awards are limited, the Common Table encourages all local churches to promote the conference special offering “Domingo del Laicado” scheduled for May 16th, 2010 as all offerings collected and sent in to the treasurer’s office will replenish this fund. Local churches and organizations are also encouraged to raise monies through special events to support this cause.
All students who are members of the United Methodist Church are encouraged to apply first for scholarships offered through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Information on these scholarships and loans can be found at www.gbhem.org.
GO TO the INFO CENTER tab to obtain listing of various scholarships provided by the Common Table – Higher Education Committee of the Rio Grande Conference. The committee thanks Mr. Sam Gallardo, a high school counselor who actively works with students to secure funding for their college education for compiling and providing this helpful information.

Welcome to the Rio Grande Conference
The Rio Grande Conference was founded in 1870. Its present day borders are the states of Texas and New Mexico with 95 congregations spread throughout this area representing the largest critical mass of bi-lingual and bi-cultural Hispanic / Latino United Methodist within the denomination. The conference’s membership is currently 14,256.
The Rio Grande Conference is excited about its future and has gone through a restructuring and visioning process in re-tooling ministry for the 21st century. Local churches are now in covenant relationship with one another as they work in clusters or Cooperative Ministry Teams [CMTs] to define their regional missional strategies as well as strengthen local church leadership and ministries. The conference Common Table, a group of about 30 leaders is charged with creatively connecting resources to local churches through their CMTs.
