The Rio Grande Conference was founded in 1870. Its present day borders are the states of Texas and New Mexico with 95 congregations spread throughout this area representing the largest critical mass of bi-lingual and bi-cultural Hispanic / Latino United Methodist within the denomination. The conference’s membership is currently 13,988.  

  The Rio Grande Conference is excited about its future and has gone through a restructuring and visioning process in re-tooling ministry for the 21st century. Local churches are now in covenant relationship with one another as they work in clusters or Cooperative Ministry Teams [CMTs] to define their regional missional strategies as well as strengthen local church leadership and ministries. The conference Common Table, a group of about 30 leaders is charged with creatively connecting resources to local churches through their CMTs.
